Hi! Thanks for stopping by Nutrition for Wellbeing. My name is Jessica Harris and I’m a passionate advocate for wholesome, nourishing, real food. My mission is to help you break free from the common belief that healthy living is a constant battle against food. I intend to inspire and motivate you into taking control of your own health through better choices.
Who I am…
I’m a wife – to a loving, witty, outgoing, and tech-savvy husband.
I’m a mother – to three charming, smart, and sometimes well-behaved kids.
I’m a self-proclaimed chef- I love cooking, learning new recipes, trying new ingredients, and needless to say, eating food!
What I do…
I’m a dietitian –I worked in a clinical nutrition department for 7 years and in a fitness center for 8 years. I stopped practicing about a year ago and decided to use my expertise in a slightly different way.
I’m a nutrition blogger – that’s what I call myself nowadays. I turned to blogging in the hopes of helping people achieve their health and fitness goals by giving them the tools, resources, and motivation necessary to reach their dream of a healthy lifestyle.
What I want…
I want to inspire and motivate people by sharing my own learning and experiences with real food, fitness, and nutrition.
I hope to expose you to healthy food choices and make you realize that clean eating is not a lifetime struggle against food.
I dream of becoming an author of my own recipe book someday and travelling the world with my family!
Why Nutrition for Wellbeing?
I have always loved food. When I was young, my parents would take my brother and I out to dinner every weekend in our hometown, Los Angeles. I have been exposed to different foods and cuisines early on in my life and I guess that’s also where my love for cooking started. Up until college, I’ve never really been conscious about what I ate. I was a typical teenager who loved pizza, creamy pastas, burgers and washing it all down with a soda. Then when I started learning about food – its composition, production, development, and benefits – I realized how much human health really depended on it. It was an eye opener for me and that’s when I decided to start try out a healthier lifestyle before it was too late.
I admit that like any beginner, I struggled with the transition at first. Each trip to the supermarket became very challenging – it was no longer as simple as putting chips, instant noodles, and soda straight into my shopping cart. I told myself that I didn’t want my new lifestyle to be a constant struggle for the rest of my life. After all, doing something good shouldn’t be this difficult. I tried to view things a little differently. Instead of looking at it as if I was letting go of something I love, I looked at it as if I was replacing something old with something better. When I craved potato chips, I would make kale chips (I was onto Kale before it became mainstream!) When I craved soda, I prepared a lush smoothie. When I craved pizza, I prepared a veggie pizza with a thin crust. By doing this, I realized that I didn’t have to let go of appetizing food, but instead, just tweak my diet such that it would be a healthier version of all my favorite foods – and it worked!
I wrote this blog for everyone out there who feel like they’re saying goodbye to good food by transitioning to healthy eating. You may not realize it yet, but it’s so much more than just tasteless greens and meatless dinners. There’s a lot of exciting things to learn about health and nutrition and you’ll get to see that in this blog. This is a platform for sharing ideas, tips, recipes, latest food trends, and other health and fitness stuff that may help others enjoy their healthy lifestyle, so come and join this amazing community! To health, fitness, and life!
Warmly,
Jessica
